Courage can be deliberately built by cultivating optionality. When one has options he/she will consciously make bolder decisions and subconsciously exude indifference towards any one outcome.
Or, you can view optionality as a crutch. Is it truly courageous if one can simply fall back on his/her alternatives? Pragmatically, I still say yes – we’re evolved creatures with deep pre-programming to avoid failure and death. Increasing your options from one to many is the praxeology of courage.
However, it’s not courage as we tend to think of it. “True courage” is heroic in that you risk annihilation against your better judgement.
